From October 3rd, 2023, to October 27th, 2023, supplementary recruitment for research internships/training for Doctoral Students will occur. Internships/training lasting at least 60 days must take place between January and June 2024.
Required application documents:
PUMS regulations regulate the rules of recruitment for scholarships under the Erasmus+ program.
MANDATORY documents:
1. APPLICATION FORM + confirmation from the host institution confirming the possibility of completing an internship/traineeship along with its scope and approximate date.
2. Cover letter addressed to the recruitment committee.
3. Documented average grade for all completed years of studies, calculated following the rules of academic scholarship – above 3.1
4. Certificates of knowledge of foreign languages (no possibility of adding them):
a) PUMS Foreign Language Studies (please contact sjo@ump.edu.pl)
or
b) Language certificates (min. B2 level according to the Council of Europe)
or
c) another certificate in the case of less-used languages (Italian, Portuguese, Spanish) at a minimum level B2
EXTRA MANDATORY:
1. Documented work for the Student Government and in student organizations.
2. Certificate of work in a scientific club (from the club’s supervisor confirmed by the STN Management Board).
3. Presentation of scientific works and their publication (list of publications with a photocopy of the first page).
4. Representation in the collegial bodies of the University: Senate, Faculty Councils
5. Activities in other University bodies and commissions regulated by the provisions of the Statute of the University of Philosophy and the Regulations of the Student Government of the PUMS (including Senate Committees, Electoral Committees, Colleges of Deans and others, at least one year, confirmed by the Chairman of the University Council of the Student Government).
6. Confirmation of medal places in university championships and other sports competitions of at least the rank of Polish championships.
7. Certificates of completion of additional courses and training, e.g. summer schools, etc., lasting at least one week and related to the field of study.
8. Certificate of studies in other fields – over one year or completed.
9. Volunteer work (certificates with working time – at least 30 hours for 1 year and a description of the volunteer work performed).
10. Confirmation from the International Relations Office about the number of days devoted to assistance in organizing the arrival and/or care of international students studying at PUMS under the Erasmus Program.

We invite you to a lecture by Professor Kazuo Umezawa, which will take place on August 24, 2023 at 12.00 in lecture hall No. 3018 at the Medical Biology Center of the Poznan University of Medical Sciences at Rokietnicka Street 8. Topic of the lecture: Inhibition of disease models by NF-kB inhibitor DHMEQ and plant-derived alkaloid conophylline.
Professor Kazuo Umezawa is the Head of the Department of Molecular Medicine at Aichi Medical University in Japan and Emeritus of the Department of Applied Chemistry at Keio University in Tokyo. His scientific interests are related to the creation of new chemical substances – modulators of cell signaling.
The conference´s subject matter will concern new trends in bioanalysis, pharmaceutical and clinical analytics, and the analysis of raw materials of natural origin.

We cordially invite you to take part in a week-long summer school of surgical training 30th July – 4th August 2023 Summer School Practice Workshop which will take place in Brno, the Masaryk University Faculty of Medicine, where in sophisticated simulation center with a number of dissecting rooms and anatomical material, students will have the opportunity to practice on surgical simulators and as well as training the procedures and techniques on human cadaveric material.
The school would also give the students an opportunity to train their communication and presentation skills. The students attending summer school will formally recognize international participation in the training course in their official record and also get 2 ECTS credits. Program Erasmus+ supports the travel to the Brno of 180EUR and subsistence costs of 406 EUR per trainee.

The six doctoral students whose presentations and scientific achievements will be rated the highest will have the opportunity to receive additional funding for the preparation of future publications as part of their education at the Doctoral School of the University of Poznań. The grant will be possible thanks to the support of the Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation.
The organizer of the event is Professor Ewa Wender-Ożegowska – Director of the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Poznań. The session will also be attended by the Deputy Directors of the Doctoral School – assoc. Prof. Agnieszka Malińska, prof. Tomasz Gośliński and members of the Committee.

Eliminations have been a tradition for several years. The first winner, Dr. Karolina Pająk from the Medical University of Lublin, represented Poland in Lisbon in 2014. The Polish representative at the second EFMC-YMCS 2015 symposium in Antwerp, Belgium was Dr. Anna Gomółka from the Medical University of Warsaw. Dr. Piotr Drączkowski from the Medical University of Lublin, in 2017, during the 4th EFMC-YMCS in Vienna, Poland was represented by Dr. Jakub Staroń from the Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. Then, at the 5th EFMC-YMCS in Ljubljana in 2018, Poland was represented by Mrs. Katarzyna Szczepańska from the Jagiellonian University, Collegium Medicum in Krakow, and in 2019 during the 6th EFMC-YMCS in Athens, Poland was represented by Mr. Dr. Adam Hogendorf from Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. Then Dr. Aneta Kaczor during the eighth EFMC-YMCS remote meeting. The ninth meeting, which took place in Nice, France, was represented by Dr. Tomasz Wichur. The last two representatives mentioned came from the Jagiellonian University, Collegium Medicum in Krakow
All doctoral students and young doctors (up to two years after their doctorate) interested in obtaining the PTChM nomination for EFMC-YMCS 2023, please send a one-page abstract in English and a short, also one-page CV (also in English) by May 10, 2023, to address: ptchm@ptchm.pl. By May 14, the PTChM Committee will select a maximum of 10 candidates who will be invited to the Eliminations in Krakow on May 20, in order to give 15-minute presentations in English. The Commission will select the winner – participant of EFMC-YMCS 2023, who will present the results of his research at the conference in Zagreb organized by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (*EFMC ☞ https://www.efmc.info/*) and EFMC Young Scientists Network (EFMC YSN).
Persons from outside Krakow taking part in the Eliminations will receive a refund of train/bus tickets. For participants from further research centers (e.g. Gdańsk, Białystok, Szczecin) it is possible to reimburse the cost of one night’s accommodation in student dormitories or hotels with similar costs.

The Innovatorium Foundation is launching the 2nd edition of a free educational cycle for people working with AI, big data or blockchain. Doctoral students who qualify for the program will be able to count on mentorship, practical knowledge of business models and tips that will help start their own startup.
Free classes will be conducted by experienced academics and entrepreneurs. The series will end with the presentation of ideas to Venture Capital funds, which will establish cooperation with the creators of the most interesting projects. What is the competition “My PhD in 180 seconds”? The competition is an opportunity for doctoral students to present their scientific work to a wide audience. It is about explaining complex issues in a simple way. In addition to the scientific dimension, the competition provides an opportunity to test oneself in public speaking, which is a huge advantage in building a career!
• For a presentation in French, participants have no more than 180 seconds and can use only one slide
• It is an international competition organized in several French-speaking countries around the world. This is its fifth edition in Central Europe. It is organized in cooperation with the French Institutes of Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland,
• The competition is held in two stages: first, a national selection in each country, followed by the Central European final on June 8, 2023 in Prague under the auspices of Charles University.
Entrants must meet the following conditions to participate in the competition
• speak fluent French,
• Complete doctoral studies in the academic year 2022-2023 or obtain a doctoral degree in 2021-2022 at a Polish university,
• Represent the university of which the doctoral student is a student. In the case of a doctorate en cotutelle, the candidate may represent only one university and may not apply for participation in two countries that are parties to the competition,
• Present a sufficient state of advancement of the research project,
• Inform your promoter and/or funding unit and the director of the research unit about your participation in the competition,
• Not be a finalist of previous editions of the competition,

On Monday, February 20, 2023 at 18:00, a meeting will be held on the MS Teams platform entitled: “Doctorate od Lining – Here’s to new beginnings! So everything you need to know about the doctorate”. It is largely an answer to questions about the doctorate asked by students.

The aim of the Program is to increase the internationalization of Polish higher education, establish academic cooperation and implement it through personal exchange of students and researchers based on international agreements between Poland and the partner countries indicated in the Program regulations, as well as bilateral cooperation at the national or departmental level. From December 1st it will be possible to apply for a scholarship for outstanding young scientists with significant achievements in scientific activity. The BioLAB program allows students and students of MA and PhD studies in biological and chemical and medical sciences to complete a one-year research internship in a laboratory located in one of the four institutions in the USA: 1) University of Virginia, Charlottesville, 2) University of Chicago, Chicago, 3) University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, 4) Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City.
During the internship, students conduct independent research in modern laboratories, the results of which are often published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. In addition, they take an active part in the life of the American university, participate in seminars, guest lectures and learn about American culture. In some cases, they also have the opportunity to use the research results for their master’s / doctoral dissertation at their home university.

Recruitment to the “Exchange to the US” program of the Kościuszko Foundation continues until November 15th. In the program, participants can gain knowledge and experience within the discipline of their choice, which they will use at work and during their studies after returning to Poland. Each year, we award scholarships and grants totaling more than $ 400,000. About forty people receive them each year.
Various forms of support are available under the “Exchange to the US” program:
• a scholarship from the Kościuszko Foundation for scientists, experts and artists – for post-doctoral research lasting from 3 to 9 months,
• Kosciuszko Foundation grants for academics, professionals and artists – for research in the United States lasting from 3 to 9 months,
• Kościuszko Foundation teaching scholarships – enable academic staff to conduct classes at American universities for up to ten months. Classes should focus on Polish culture and language. Scholarship holders may continue their research while on this scholarship pathway.
We kindly ask you to help spread the information about the program to potential candidates who want to develop academically or artistically in the United States in the 2023-2024 academic year. We encourage you to send a press release to individuals or organizations and publish ready-made promotional materials on your website and social media channels.
Who can apply for a scholarship?
Polish citizens or holders of the Pole’s Card who permanently reside in the territory of the Republic of Poland can apply for the scholarship, regardless of their sex, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age.
Candidates must have completed a Master’s degree prior to the start of the program. They should also be able to communicate in English to a degree that allows them to actively participate in conversations, classes and events conducted in English. Scholarships are more often awarded to candidates pursuing doctoral studies or to more experienced academics.
There are no requirements as to the area of interest in which the candidate wants to conduct research – what counts is passion and an original research idea.

Recruitment for the 2023 edition of the TopMinds mentoring program has started. TopMinds is a mentoring program that opens the door to an international career for young Polish scientists and scientists.
So far, there have been five editions of the program, which have already been used by almost 175 young people as well as their mentors and mentors! The organizers of the program are the Top 500 Innovators Association and the Polish-American Fulbright Commission, the partners of the edition are the Częstochowa University of Technology and Visnea.

Participant of the Doctoral School – Dominika Sikora, MSc – received the award for the best speech at the International Scientific Conference “Nutrition Without Borders”. Dominika Sikora presented in English the results of research on the nutritional composition of food based on edible insects, which are part of her doctoral dissertation. The PhD student’s supervisor is Professor Piotr Rzymski.

The project “ Assessment of the gut microbiome, enterotype and the ability to break down starch in a weight reduction program using nutritional intervention and probiotic therapy in obese women ” by a PhD student Anna Rychter, M.Sc. by decision of the Council Scientific Biocodex Microbiota Foundation in Poland, became the laureate of the 4th edition of the competition entitled: “OBESITY CONTROL BY MODIFYING THE INTESTINAL MICROBIOM – IS IT POSSIBLE?”
The doctoral student’s supervisor is Assoc. Prof. Iwona Krela-Kaźmierczak.
Grant value in the competition: EUR 25,000.
The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Department and Clinic of Gastroenterology, Dietetics and Internal Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw and the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań.

Polish National Association of Doctoral Candidates (KRD) has started a project entitled “Local Ambassador of PhD Candidates Rights 2.0”. Within the framework of this edition of the project, KRD will select 10 Local Ambassadors of PhD Candidates Rights (specialists in higher education and science law), who will carry out activities aimed at increasing the legal awareness of the doctoral community.
The purpose of this project is to increase the legal awareness of PhD Candidates regarding higher education and science laws.
Activities will also be conducted in English. Local Ambassador of PhD Candidates Rights will prepare an information campaign dedicated to foreign doctoral students with a consideration of the legal situation of those who begin their education in Poland in connection with the armed conflict on Ukrainian territory.

This event accompanies the meeting of the international Working Group The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), hosted by the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum. The GRADE Group is recognized around the world as an organization committed to unifying the method of assessing the quality of scientific data and the strength of recommendations in guidelines, and the GRADE guideline development methodology has become the “gold standard” for developing clinical management guidelines in many organizations (including WHO).
As part of the event program, 3 lectures on the introduction to the GRADE methodology, various aspects of the use of guidelines by clinicians and modern methods of guideline development and their relevance to clinicians will be given by leading experts from the GRADE Working Group: prof. Holger Schünemann, prof. Gordon Guyatt and prof. Elie Akl. The meeting will be conducted in English.

Local Sessions of Interdisciplinarity (LSI) are an initiative of the conference cycle organized by the Interdisciplinary Scientific Circle of the Doctoral School at the University of Szczecin. In the beginning, the meetings were internal mini-conferences, but currently, it takes the form of national conferences.
The meetings have a predetermined main topic, which is presented by speakers from various disciplines. The presentation is followed by a discussion on the topic.
The conference begins on 29/04/2022 at 5:00 p.m. There will be a maximum of 10 active participants, each of whom will have 10 minutes to speak. This will be followed by a discussion of the presented issues, in which passive participants will also be able to participate. Time allowed for the discussion: one and a half hours. Both active and passive participation is free of charge. The number of places for active participation is limited.
The theme of the Third Nationwide English LSI Conference is Problems of Contemporary Science.

Authorities of the PUMS Doctoral School
Duration: 2-12 months
Scholarship: from 600 EUR until 670 EUR (depending on the UE country)
Requirement documents:
– grade average of no less than 3,11 for all completed years (obligatory)
– language skills on level B1 at least (obligatory)
– confirmation from the host institution
– additional activities: student’s organizations, science clubs, presentation and publication of the scientific papers, representation in university’s Senate and Department Council, additional courses and traineeships (Summer Schools etc., at least one week-long, related to the study field), confirmation of completed other degree (one year at least), voluntary work (related to the study field), confirmation from Erasmus Centre of Erasmus mentoring (number of days).
University does not have any agreements for Erasmus placement for PhD students. Each student has to find the place individually.
Application for training in 2022/23 academic year starts on 28.02.2022 and lasts to 31.03.2022.

The results may change the attitudes of policy-makers and academic officials to the problem of mental health of doctoral students. The interviews with the candidates for our Doctoral School have finished. Congratulation to qualified participants. We are aware that our FOREIGN candidates (who are qualified for our Doctoral School) have many questions and formalities to be carried out before coming to Poland. Should there also be any other problems to be solved, we would like to discuss them. In order to meet your expectations, a special room for research work dedicated to PhD students is available in the Main Library of the PUMS.
The room is located on the first floor of the Library building.
Sixteen workplaces are available in the room, including six workstations equipped with computers with access to the Internet and the Library’s e-resources.
The room will be available after the presentation of the doctoral ID in accordance with the regulations of the Main Library during its opening hours.
The room cannot be used for teaching.
Dear PhD Students,
In just a month, on October 11, a series of lectures begins as part of the “Autumn School” implemented in our Doctoral School. It is intended mainly for PhD students from our University, as well as from other doctoral schools in Poland. The event will be held under the patronage of the Rector of the PUMS – professor Andrzej Tykarski and “Doktoranckie Forum Uczelni Medycznych” (Doctoral Forum of Medical Universities).
We managed to invite many excellent lecturers, and the topics of these presentations are really diverse. You will have a unique opportunity to listen to, among others about the careers of outstanding scientists, university authorities, and the collection of big data in large databases. There will also be lectures on COVID-19. It is difficult to point them here. All information is available on the website:

And one more thing – the entire school is run in English via the TEAMS platform, and the secrets of improving its knowledge on a daily basis will be provided by Jonathan Facer and Christian Saunders (Canguro English), known from various podcasts and YouTube.
On the Sunday preceding the Autumn School, we are going to meet (this time by contact) in the the “Morasko Meteorite” nature reserve.
